Method 2: Check the partition style of your disk

One possible reason behind the issue can be the limitation of MBR disk. If the disk installed on computer uses MBR (Master Boot Record), you will not create more than 4 partitions on your disk. Whereas, in GPT partition, there is no such limit. You can create partition with GPT format in order to fix.

Step 1: Open ‘Disk Management’ in Windows PC via Windows Search Box

Step 2: Right-click on your hard disk and select ‘Properties’

Step 3: Select ‘Volumes’ tab and you will see the partition style of your hard disk. If partition style of hard disk is MBR, and you already have 4 partition on it, you can convert it to GPT to create more partitions.

Conversion is possible only if hard disk contains no partitions or volumes. If your hard disk contains any partitions, you have to delete them before converting MBR into GPT. This action will also erase all data on your hard disk. That’s why we suggest you backup all your data on external hard disk.

The GPT disks use UEFI BIOS mode and you can check your BIOS mode in System Information if so, you can convert it to UEFI. And afer converting hard disk from MBR to GPT, check if the error is resolved.

Method 3: Rescan your hard disk

You can run Rescan command to detect new added disk to your computer and it detects the configuration changes on your hard disk and update the information.

Step 1: Type ‘cmd’ in Windows Search Box and press ‘SHIFT + ENTER’ keys on keyboard to open ‘Command Prompt as administrator’

Step 2: Type ‘diskpart’ command and hit ‘Enter’ key to execute. Now, type ‘rescan’ command and hit ‘Enter’ key to execute

Step 3: Once scanning finished, check if the issue is resolved.

Method 4: Shrink the partition on your hard disk drive

This error is occurred if there is no enough usable space for this operation. You can shrink partition on your hard disk drive in order to fix.

Step 1: Open ‘Command Prompt as Administrator’ using above method

Step 2: Type ‘diskpart’ command and hit ‘Enter’ key to execute.

Step 3: Execute ‘Select disk #’ command. Replace # with the disk number.

Step 4: You have to select the partition of your hard disk which you want to shrink. For this, type ‘list par’ and hit ‘Enter‘ key to execute.

Step 5: Execute ‘sel par #’ command. Replace # with partition number of your hard disk.

Step 6: Execute ‘shrink desired=size minimum=size’ command. Replace the string size with actual size on the disk that you want to shrink.

Step 7: Once executed, a partition with unallocated space will be created. You can view this unallocated space in Disk Management.

Step 8: To make the unallocated space usable, you have to format it by executing the ‘fs=ntfs quick’ command. Once done, the partition of desired size is created and then check if the issue is resolved.

Method 5: Use third-party tool to create partitions on your hard disk

You can also try to use a third-party tool to create partitions on your hard drive. You will find many disk and partition manager tools that come with both free and pair plains. Once partition creation completed, check if the issue is resolved.
